Tredegar Town Band & Ysgol Glantaf ConcertPosted: April 19, 2016
Our special fund raising Concert at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama last Friday was a great success. The headliners were The Tredegar Town Band (conducted by Ian Porthouse) who gave us a rousing and highly entertaining performance showing why they are the top brass band in Wales and aiming to be the top brass band in Europe in the European Championship later this year. Their highlights included “Dance of the Comedians”, Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long” and concluding piece “Glorifico Aeternum”. The Band’s programme featured excellent solos from vocalist Siwan Henderson, Matthew White (Euphonium) and Dewi Griffiths (cornet). The Tredegar Town Band were very ably support on the bill by the very talented pupils from Ysgol Glantaf with songs from their male voice (conducted by Delyth Medi Lloyd) and vocal ensembles; as well as solo instrumental pieces from Charlie Lovell Jones (violinist) and his brother, former Ysgol Glantaf pupil Harry (percussionist). The compere was Gail Pearson. Well done to all the performers and to the organisers who will have raised a great deal of money for our Rotary Club’s Centenary project at the Cardiff Maggie’s Centre.
